Now let's come to the speciality of the pushkarani:

The theertham (or) the pushkarani of this Divyadesam is Jatayu pushkarani. Jatayu, the divine bird who helped Sita Piratti when she was grabbed by Ravana during that fight of saving Sita piratti. His wings were cut by Ravana and as a result he fell down with lots of wounds and was nearing death.

It is said that Lord Rama once pressed one end of his bow, the Dhanusu in the earth here and opened up a small spring which later became the Pushkarani. He himself took a holy bath in this theertham and performed the final funerals for Jatayu as he felt him as his father.

And as a request from Jatayu, the perumal stayed here in the form of performing the final ritual / rites.

Vijayan means victory / winner. Lord Rama, who stayed here as Vijaya raghavan represents the victory (as he won over Ravanan).
