Sri Mushnam - Sri Bhoovaraghaswamy Temple

Sri Mushnam - Sri Bhoovaraghaswamy Temple

  Sthalapuranam :

Lord Brahma during his Shrishti (process of creation) gave life to Hiranyastshakan and Hiranyakashibu. These both brothers were actually the Dwarabalagars in Sri Vaikundam. As a Sabham (Curse) they both were cursed that they will be born again and again as ordinary human beings and finally their lives will be ended by Sriman Narayanan. And added to this, this rebirth it will continue for 3 Yugams. Like the sabham, in 1 Yugam they were born as Hiranyastshakan and Hiranyakashibu. (Killed by Sri Narasimhar)

Sri Mushnam - Bhoovaragha Murthy Hiranyatshakan did a severe penance towards Brahma devan and asked that he should conquer the entire world and should never die. But, Brahma devan denied to give this varam (boon) because for every human, how the birth is a must, likewise death is also the final thing. As a result, thinking himself great, Hiranyatshakan asked the varam that he should not be killed by an ordinary man (or) by the god (or) by an animal (or) any devars. He too added that he should not be killed on land. As satisfied by this, Brahma devan gave this varam. After getting the varam, Hiranyatshakan started to give trouble to the people, the Rishis and the devars. All of them fell to the divine feet of Sriman Narayanan and asked him to rescue all of them from Hiranyatshakan. As the time came for the death of him, Sri Vishnu took the Varaha Avathaar. Hiranyatshakan took Bhooma Devi along with him deep into the sea. Sri Vishnu, who took the Varaha Avathaar fought with him, killed him and came along Bhooma Devi (earth) and holding her in his nose. And asked by her, Sriman Narayanan stayed in this sthalam as “Bhoovarahar”.

It is said Anna (rice) Dhaanam is one among the best Dhaanams in the world. Almost, all the people in this world perform this dhaanam. Once, there lived an Andhanan by named “Sambaran” who had a great bhakti towards Sriman Narayanan. He begged (yaasagam) for food and had a practice that whatever food that he gets on that day, he feed that food to the person who is coming to his house and after that, he and his family members will eat the remaining food.

To test his bhakti, Sriman Narayanan came as an “old Andhanan” and entered his house. He came along with a Lion. Sambaran offered the old andhanan with food. After having the food, the Old andhanan (Sri Vishnu) asked Sambaran to offer food for the Lion. But, Sambaran was surprised to hear this. Sambaran replied that he could take himself, his wife and child as the food for the lion. But the old andhanan did not accept them and said that his lion has to be fed with the cow, which belong to Sambaran. But, Sambaran begged to the andhanan that he could take all of them but not the cow. Having heard him this answer from Sambaran, Sriman Narayanan who has come there as an old andhanan, showed his original appearance as Sriman Narayanan and gave his dharshan along with Sangu and Chakkaram, Sri Devi and along with Garudalwar. And finally, Sambaran was given the Moksham.
