Thirunarayanapuram - Thiru Narayanan Temple, Melkottai

Thirunarayanapuram - Thiru Narayanan Temple, Melkottai

  Temple Tour :

Thirunarayanapuram - Melkottai As soon as we get down in this sthalam, the first thing we see is the Kalyani theertham. Only in this theertham, Yathu Vamsa rajan took bath daily and worshipped the deities of the temple. This theertham is found in the foothill of the temple and the theertham is so clear that it looks like silver. On one among the sides of this theertham, a separate Sannadhi for Sri Varaha perumal is found and he gives the seva as he was explaining the slokam to Bhooma Devi.

On the Northwest side of the theertham, Sannadhi for Periya Thiruvadi - Sri Garudalwar is found. It is said that he stores the Thiru - Mann (a sacred mark of Sri Vaishnavites which they smear on the fore head) Kaappu. There is a story about this and it is that when Sri Ramanujar was leading his life in this sthalam, one day he could not get the Thiru Mann to get smeared. On that night in his dream, Emperumaan came and explained that he can get the Thiru Mann in the place where Sri Garudalwar is found now. And as said by the perumal, Sri Ramanujar went to that place and got the Thiru Mann.

Thirunarayanapuram - Melkottai In the Vaayu end, a separate Sannadhi for Yadhugiri Nachiyar is found. Previously, it is said that the Thaayar was giving her seva Ugra Kolam but after then, the perumal in Garudan gave her the seva as "Gajendra Varadhan" and reduced her Ugram (angry) and from then, the Thaayar gave her seva as "Sowmyanayaki".

Before, Brahmotsavam, the Utsavars Selvapillai and Yadhugiri Nachiyar are taken towards the Kalyani Pushkarani and Kalyana Utsavam is done in a great manner.

A separate Sannadhi for Sri Narasimhar is also found in this sthalam and by getting the dharshan of this Narasimhar it is very much evident we can get all the wealth, health what we lost.

Sri Ramanujar Sannadhi:

Melkottai - Sri Ramanujar (thaan Ugantha Thiru meni) Thiru Narayanapuram after knowing about the deities another great person is to know about Sri Ramanujar. We can find a separate Sannadhi for Sri Ramanujar almost in all Sri Vaishnavites temples but the Sannadhi for him in this great sthalam is a special one.

Sri Ramanujar stayed in this sthalam and keeping this sthalam as the central point, he spread Sri Vaishnavism in the south part of our country and also extended it into the Northern region also. He installed his own Idol in this sthalam (thaan Ugantha Thiru meni).

Vairamudi and Selvapillai:

The primary attraction of this sthalam is the great Brahmotsavam during which the perumal is decorated with Vairamudi (a special and precious ornament in which diamond stones are installed) and this seva is greatly called as "Vairamudi Seva".

Melkottai - Vairamudi Seva There is a story behind this great Vairamudi. Once, when Sri Parandhaman - Sriman Narayanan was in his deep sleep, Virocchanan stole this Vairamudi from Sriman Narayanan's head and went inside the Badhala Lokam. As a command from Sri Vishnu, Periya thiruvadi - Garudalwar went in search of the Kreedam, fought with Virocchanan and got back the Kreedam. While, he was traveling towards Sriman Narayanan, he was attracted by the beauty and charm of Sri Krishnan in Brindavan and dedicated this Kreedam to him. And after this, when Sri Krishnar came to get the dharshan of Thiru Narayanapuram - Sri Narayanan, Sri Krishnan dedicated this Vairamudi for this sthala perumal. This is one of the stories, which is told with reference to the Vairamudi.

This Vairamudi is safely kept inside the Mysore palace as its being a valuable and precious ornament. The perumal gives his seva in Garuda Vahanam wearing this Vairamudi during the Brahmotsavam which is done during the month of Panguni (March 15 - April 15)
