Maargazhi Thingal

Paasuram - 1

Some of the friends of Sri Andal are said to worn precious ornaments. As a first Paasuram, Sri Andal calls of the friends one by one stating that the great Margazhi month has started.

"All Paavai, the month what we are expecting so far has come. The Pournami moon has started to glow and it indicates the great months emergence sharp Vel (a weapon) who is found along with Nandagopan is said to be a great brave person and this thirukkumaran is Sri Kannan. He is like a cub (Singa Kutty - Lion's Kid) for Yasodhai. Beautiful eyes, sky - coloured (blue), the eyes glow like suryan and chandran. He is not an ordinary child; he is Paramporul - Sri Narayanan (Paramathma). He will definitely provides the great varam (the result - Parai). And because of this, the entire world will praise us. So, Paavai lets go .."

Words and the meanings:

Margazhi thingal :
The Margazhi month.
Mathi Niraintha :
Pournami (the full moon) day.
Koorvel :
Sharp vel (a weapon).
Ilansingam :
Cub (Lion's Kid - Singakutty)
KaarmenicChengan :
Neela megha Shyamalar - Blue coloured child (like sky)
Kathir Madhiyam pol Mugathaan :
His face is glowing like moon and sun (i.e.) Sun explains the brightness and moon explains the cool breeze.
Narayananey Namakku Parai tharuvaan :
By praising the Narayanan - he will blesses us with Parai (varam)- the result of the fasting.

The First Paasuram is said to be the chief paasuram. Now let us proceede to the second paasuram.
