Divyadesams - 108 Sri Vishnu Temples

Like how, India is surrounded by Oceans and Sea, the Bhakti is also spread throughout our Country. Emperumaan Sriman Narayanan who is the Paramathma is found in all of the minds and heart of the Jeevathmas, is found from Kanyakumari to Himalayas in various Thirukkolams (posture or position) in various Sthalams.

Out of these Sthalams, Alwars, who are said to be the Hamsam of Sriman Narayanan, have sung Mangalasasanam (praising of the Perumal) on the Perumal and there are totally 108 Sthalams where Alwars have done Mangalasasanam on the Perumal. These 108 Vishnu Sthalams are called as "Divyadesams".

Emperumaan, Sriman Narayanan is found in various Thirukkolam. The Thirukkolam in 108 Divyadesams are given below:

  • Kidantha Thirukkolam        ( Sleeping Position )    - 27 Divyadesams
  • Veetrirundha Thirukkolam  ( Sitting Position )        - 21 Divyadesams
  • Nindra Thirukkolam           ( Standing Position )     - 60 Divyadesams

In these 108 Divyadesams, as we have seen that the Perumal is found on various Thirukkolam, He is also facing his Thirumugham on various directions and giving his seva, which are as follows:

  • Towards East direction - 79 Divyadesams
  • Towards West direction - 19 Divyadesams
  • Towards North direction - 3 Divyadesams
  • Towards South direction - 7 Divyadesams

These 108 Divyadesams are found throughout our Indian country and they are divided into 7 categories. There are as follows.

Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kanchipuram

காஞ்சி வரதராஜப் பெருமாள்

One of the biggest Sri Vaishnavite Divyadesam in Kanchipuram, where the Presiding Deity is Sri Varadhar. Temple is also referred as "Hastagiri" and the Perumal given a special TiruNaamam as "Attiyuran"

Thiruneermalai Temple

Popular Temple for Sri Ranganathar Perumal Temple on a hill and down on Sri Neervanna Perumal.

Sri Pandava Thoothar Perumal Temple

Also called as Thirupadagam, is located in Kanchipuram very near to Arulmighu Ekambareswarar Temple

Sri Parthasarathy Temple

A Vaishnavite temple located at Thiruvallikeni - one of the oldest temple in Chennai

Tiruvallur Divya desam

Thiruvikrama Swamy Temple - Thirukovilur

திருக்கோவிலூர் உலகளந்த பெருமாள் கோவில்

One among the "Pancha Krishnaranya Kshetram". Divyadesam where Naalaayira Divya Prabhandham originated. Divya desam associated with Mahabali Chakhravarthy. Mudhal Alwars met in this Divyadesam.

Thiruvahindrapuram Divya desam

திருவந்திபுரம் தேவநாதசுவாமி பெருமாள் கோவில்

Aadiseshan worshipped the Perumal here. Lord Hayagreevar is found on the hilltop temple. Perumal is called with the Tiru Naamam as "Moovaragiya Oruvar" (மூவராகிய ஒருவர்) - all forms of Trimurthies can be found along with the Moolavar.

Sri Ranganathar Temple, Sri Rangam

ஸ்ரீரங்கம் கோவில்

One of the special Sri Vaishnavite Temple. This temple is termed as "Periya Kovil" and the Perumal is "Periya Perumal". All the 11 Alwars have done the Mangalasasanam on this Sthalam. Srimath Naadhamunigal started the Arayar seva in this Sthalam.

Sri Sarangapani Temple, Kumabakonam

The Moolavar of this Divya desam is Sri Sarangapani Perumal who is also called as "Tiru Aaravamudham". Thaayar is Sri Komalavalli Thayar.

Sri Sowriraja Perumal, Tirukannapuram

This is one of the Pancha Krishnaranya Kshetram. The Moolavar is Sri Neelamega Perumal in standing posture.

Thiruindalur Temple

The Moolavar of this sthalam is Sri Parimala Ranganathan. "Mudava Muzhuku" is one of the special utsavam performed

Thiruvelliyankudi Divya desam

The Moolavar of this sthalam is Kola Valvilli Raman. Garudalwar holds the Sangu and Chakkaram on his hands in this Sthalam.

Thirukoshtiyur Temple

Avathara Sthalam of Swamy Tirukkoshtiyur Nambi; "Ashtakshara Mantram" was explained by Sri Ramanujar to the whole world.

Thirupullani Temple

Moolavar is Sri Kalyana Jagannathar Perumal. Sri Ramar is called as "Dharbha sayana Ramar".
